Day 12 – A Day Off In Hengchun

On April 23, 2012 by admin

Decided late last night that we’d stay and relax in Hengchun another day, the first multiple stay at one place since Taipei.  This hotel is great, really nice people running it and just a good vibe around.

Down for breakfast where Adia had our breakfast ready for us of a hamburger sausage type sandwich and a hash brown, plus a couple of home brewed coffees, so good!  It was great to sleep in a little today, and to just have a day to hang out and not be biking or rushing around.  We decided we’d go to the Kenting Aquarium in the morning, then the Mudan Hot Spring in the afternoon.

Adia also arranged for us a driver for the day, all for only NT$500.  Woody our driver arrived before noon and first took us to the national aquarium.  The aquarium was the best I’ve been to, pretty amazing access to view everything. We spent a couple of hour here then called Woody to pick us up and bring us up to the Mudan Hot Springs.  He chose a good hot spring resort for us to take a dip in, NT$300 per person.  Many pools here, more than half the buttons didn’t work that turn on random jets, but still it’s a monsoon rainy day today and soaking in a hot pool is a good way to spend a rainy day.  Many many times today while watching the rain pour down I thought to myself, thank god I’m not riding today.

We got back to the hotel by 5pm and Adia found us a nearby Taiwan beef noodle shop, super tasty, menu in full Chinese of course and no other tourists around.  He also let us use his folding bikes, love these things, we pedaled around to do a bit of shopping at the “everything” store then watched a movie before going to sleep.  Great day off.
