About Us

Escape2Taiwan was created and is managed by JA Travel Solutions, a Taiwan based company specializing in tourism industry marketing and travel planning. The web site is designed to give travellers detailed insight into the food, culture, and history of Taiwan, as well as provide the tools necessary to explore and enjoy the country on one’s own.  Feedback, suggestions, and requests for travel planning assistance are always welcome, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

The Escape2Taiwan team is made up of:

James Mutter

James has been a traveller most of his life ever since discovering Jack Kerouac books at the age of 14.  He left Canada as a teenager, and spent nearly a decade in Japan’s tourism industry, promoting the country’s snow and culture abroad for the tourism board as well as for hotels and resorts.  After arriving in Taipei in 2011, and trading in his skis for a surfboard, he has been working to create traveller friendly information about Taiwan, similar to what he did for Japan.  He contributes the articles and photographs for Escape2Taiwan.

Favourite thing about Taiwan: Surfing and Hot Spring weekends in Yilan.

Atsunori Matsui

Atsunori is based in Tokyo, Japan and provides all the design and technical expertise behind Escape2Taiwan.  He became addicted to Taiwan in 2009, and since then has been making monthly trips to the country to explore the island further.

    Hi both

I came across your site when I am planning for a Taiwan trip for March 2015. I am bringing my family of 5 (with a 2yr old kid) to Taiwan over the Lantern Festival period, and would like to witness the PingXi lantern festival. I read your guide for 2014, and would like to know where can I find those details for 2015, such as the dates where specific spots are having the festivals, and where and what time does the buses run for those specific dates.

It seems like the official and internet have not release any specific information and dates for 2015 Lantern festival. I need to plan in advance for the air ticket and lodging. Thus would appreciate if you can advise if you have the 2015 information.

      Hi Jim,

Thank you for following the blog posts and for your question.
Although there does not seem to be an official web site for the festival online at this point, there is a Chinese language blog reporting on the scheduled dates and times. I will update the blog once the official web site has published the schedule, but for now, here are the dates as listed on the Chinese language blog:
      1) Medium sized event: Feb. 3, 2015 18:00-21:00
      Jing Tong Elementary School
No.45 Jingtong Street, Pingxi Dist., New Taipei City
      2) Large scale event: Feb. 8, 2015 18:00-21:00
      Pingxi Junior High School
No.92 Shidi Street, Pingxi Dist., New Taipei City 226
      3)Large scale event: Feb. 14, 2015 18:00-21:00
      Shifen Sky Lantern Square
No.136, Nanshanping, Pingxi Dist., New Taipei City

      I hope that helps.
